At present, national expenditures on science and technology accounted for slightly more than 2% of the GDP of Canada, which is still much lower than in the U.S., Japan and many Western European countries. Employment in science and technology sector of the economy of Canada is about 60 persons per 10 thousand workers in the country's economy. This figure is closer to the average for countries belonging to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), but markedly less than in the U.S. (about 90) or Japan (95). Leaders, however, this indicator is Finland (more than 127 people).
